Case Study: Silver Fern Farms live stream

Every year Silver Fern Farms heads out to the regions on a Supplier Roadshow, visiting 20 rural towns to engage with the farmers who supply their beef, sheep and venison. This is an integral part of their supply strategy, so when Covid-19 got in the way of their 2021 Roadshow they knew they needed to find another way.

Silver Fern Farms engaged Gravity Events to live stream the update to suppliers instead. With 7 presenters covering a range of topics over three 2 hours it was vital that their audiences felt engaged. Gravity created a seamless experience using three separate cameras, allowing our stream operator to switch quickly between presenters and keep the flow moving. We could also run presentation slides, with the presenter appearing inset to maintain a connection with viewers.

Without an audience in the room Gravity created a studio-style setup. The speakers were able to direct their attention to Gravity screens placed between cameras, functioning as a teleprompter and to display the slides they were talking to, while our team mixed visuals and sound from the back of the room. Creating a point of focus and obscuring the technical operations helped the presenters feel relaxed and confident in their delivery, without any distractions.

Sony 4k Camcorders were used for high quality videography, covering the MC podium, an individual presenter seat, and the wider studio. The ability to switch between close ups and a fixed wide-angle shot of the entire panel allowed for snappy editing and reflected a dynamic format that held attention spans, with viewer numbers holding steady throughout the 2 hour stream.

To mix the broadcast Gravity used BlackMagic ATEM TV Studio HD, with a Gravity operator mixing camera view, slides, and adding lower third titles for presenters, as well as displaying a QR code which enabled viewers to submit questions. This proved to be an effective way of encouraging participation, and the team were very pleased with the number of questions received.

Gravity loved helping Silver Fern Farms reach their customers with a professional quality studio live stream. For more information about how Gravity could help to broadcast your event, get in touch.
