Bust a Move on Gravity’s LED Dancefloor : Top moves we recommend

There are two types of people when it comes to dancing - those who are looking for any opportunity to bust a move, get down and dirty and burn up the dance floor OR there are those that have two left feet and yet they still manage to get off on the wrong foot on the dancefloor! If you find yourself relating more to the latter and you would rather make a song and dance out of anything but the actual dancing, then this one's for you!

Follow in Gravity’s footsteps with the top moves we recommend to get you in the groove and keep you on your toes as you take a spin on our sound activated Light up dancefloor.

FOR THE BEGINNERS: Keeping it simple…

The “Hitch” Two Step

If you are looking for a safe way to get yourself out on the dance floor then in the words of Hitch himself...“This is where you live, right here, this is home”.

The “Hitch” Two Step is an easy side step, keeping your elbows at 90 degrees and close to your body.

The Inbetweeners

Looking to impress the ladies? Look no further than the Inbetweeners dance combo. Sporting some great side stepping and elbow action you can really bring this move to the next level with a shake of the hand in front of your face.

The Robot

If “smooth operator” isn’t your middle name then maybe the Robot is the dance for you.

It’s easy - just move around like you are made of metal. Angles are key!

Dabbing

It might be illegal in Saudi Arabia but we won’t be giving you a ticket for busting out this move! There are a few variations of the dab however if you can handle the basics you could advance to more. Bend one elbow, straighten the other arm and bend your head down into the crook of your bent elbow. More advanced options also include the “flutter dab” (dabbing then moving your hands in a butterfly action)

Pro Tip: Try pairing Dabbing with the “Hitch” two step to add a bit of pow.

Planking

It’s simple - lie face down on the dancefloor and do your best imitation of a plank of wood. This move is a bit risky depending on how lit your dancefloor is, so caution is necessary! Perfect for beginners as minimal technique is required (like, none at all).

THE INFLUENCERS

We’ve rounded up some iconic dancers to draw inspiration from...

The Carlton

...and all the 90’s babies said “hell yeah!”

On the hit show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, the iconic celebratory “Carlton” dance was made famous by Will’s preppy cousin Carlton Banks.

Typically paired with the Tom Jones classic “It’s Not Unusual”, this is similar to the “Hitch” two step in that it’s all about the swing - once you start swinging you just won’t stop!

Napoleon Dynamite

Napoleon Dynamite has our vote when it comes to busting a move!

It’s all in the hips and the hands, with a combination of a few simple moves it’s obvious that Napoleon knows where it's at on the dancefloor.

The Moonwalk

Dubbed the King of Pop, there’s no question that Michael could move! Taking inspiration from MJ why don’t you try your hand (or should we say feet) at the iconic moonwalk. For expert players top that off with a cheeky hip thrust, and whatever you do, “don’t stop ‘til you get enough”

Single Ladies

As a triple threat, Queen B can sing, dance and act (and probably do anything else she wants to as well). Bringing out your inner Beyonce is all about explosive energy, hair flicks, and channelling your inner sass! One dance that is essential for the Gravity LED dancefloor is the iconic “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)”. Get your friends together and strut your stuff to this song!

TikTok

TikTok not only brought us the likes of Adison Rae and Charli D’Amelio but also some iconic dances and moves. Take some time on this app and learn the moves that will make you go viral. Whether you are “hitting the woah” or learning combinations like “Old Town Road”, “Renegade” and “Savage”, when the DJ drops the beat you can stay hip with Gen Z.

Sports: Running Man

We couldn’t help adding a bit of controversy to this blog with the “Running Man Challenge”  Made popular by sports culture, the move consists of pumping your hands up and down close to your body while shuffling your feet to the beat. This is not to be confused with the Old School “Running Man” dance move which was mainly used in hip hop. Both dance moves are worthy of the Gravity LED Dancefloor.

PARENT’S MOVES:

Just like the Dad bod, Dad dance moves are making their way to the LED dance floor - so cringe that they are cool! Try out a few of these Dad moves:

The Qtip (and throw away)

Lean side to side like you are cleaning out your ears with a cotton bud - then don’t forget to throw it away!

Shopping Cart

Pretend like you are in the supermarket, put one hand on your shopping cart and use the other to reach up to the shelves and then back to the cart to load it up with imaginary treats. For greater difficulty we suggest experimenting with different levels, as not everything you need is on the top shelf!

The Lawn Mower

There’s nothing Dad loves more than a Saturday morning getting the lawns done! Bring that same energy to the dancefloor as you start up your pretend lawn mower and take it a spin.

The Mum Moves

Is there anything more iconic than seeing your mum bring out some classic dance moves! Take some inspiration - here are our top moves inspired by yo’ Mama...

Sprinkler

Rotating your torso around in a circle motion, bend one arm up to your head and straighten the other in front of you. Like a sprinkler you want to move your straight arm and opposite elbow together in a short sharp contracting motion. Extra points if you make the “Shhh shhh shhh” noise like you really are spraying the lawn.

Raise the Roof

Simple and classic - flex your wrists, flatten your palms and push both your arms towards the sky repeatedly, as though you are in fact “raising the roof”.

The Fishing Line/“Reel it in”

This one is a bit more complicated as it needs two people to make it work.

One person grabs the imaginary rod and casts their fishing line “catching” their partner as if they have caught the fish. Once caught reel in your partner by winding up the line, while they flop incrementally closer like a salmon being tugged towards the shore.

The Egyptian

Classic mum move. Channeling the Bangles hit song “Walk like an Egyptian” this move is a great go-to if you are wanting to move yourself around the dancefloor. You can also use this move standing still, focusing on keeping those arms bent to impress your mates with your vintage moves!

With a library of moves to choose from when you hire a Gravity LED dancefloor there is really only one thing left to say… may we have this dance?
